“Dry” Canyoning in the Wet (14 Feb 2026)
We had some grand plans for the weekend but once we got close enough to rely on the forecast they were quickly downgraded. There was some talk of cancelling altogether but we the forecast didn’t seem too bad, so we figured some dry-ish canyons would work. Unfortunately 0-2mm of rain can come in a different forms and Saturday ended up being drizzle for most of the day, rather than a couple of squally showers. Fortunately it cleared a bit in the late afternoon and evening so our not-so-watertight tarp kept us largely dry as we enjoyed an evening camping out.
I knew it had been some time since I’d been out here – I kept saying it was more than 10 years, but when I checked after I got home – it was 14 and 19 years respectively since I’d done these canyons! It was good to get out, but on Sunday morning when heavier drizzle started up again we wussed out and headed home rather than spend a second day out in the rain.
